Dzire CNG vs Petrol — The Economy Decision

Best Economy ZXI CNG — 33.73 km/kg at ₹2.12/km, Best Running Cost Sub-4m Sedan in India ~₹9.04L ex / ~₹10.33L on road Delhi — 33.73 km/kg CNG, ₹2.12/km, 6 airbags

The Dzire has a running cost of ₹2.12 per kilometre and a monthly fuel cost of ₹3,181, assuming a daily run of 50 kilometres and CNG at ₹70 per kg. Compare with the petrol Dzire VXI at approximately ₹4.20/km city (₹100/L, 24.79 kmpl city) — CNG saves ₹2.08/km. At 1,500 km monthly: CNG saves ₹3,120/month vs petrol. Over 5 years: ₹1.87 lakh fuel saving. The CNG premium over ZXI petrol (~₹82,000 ex-showroom) pays back in approximately 26 months at this usage. The CNG version of the Dzire returns a certified 33.73 km/kg — the best-in-class for any sub-4 metre sedan in India in the CNG segment. Boot space reduction for CNG: from 382L (petrol) to approximately 318L with CNG kit — adequate for a couple but potentially limiting for families with large luggage. Key limitation: no CNG AMT option — CNG Dzire is manual only. If automatic transmission is required, petrol is the only choice.

Price: ~₹9.04L ex / ~₹10.33L on road Delhi (ZXI CNG)
Mileage: 33.73 km/kg ARAI (real-world city ~24–26 km/kg)
Running cost: ₹2.12/km at ₹70/kg CNG
Monthly saving vs petrol: ~₹3,120/month at 1,500 km

Which Dzire Variant to Buy?

Best City Auto Value VXI AMT — Touchscreen + Android Auto + AMT Comfort Under ₹9L on Road Delhi ~₹7.72L ex / ~₹8.87L on road Delhi — 9-inch Screen, Wireless CarPlay, AMT, Alloys

The VXI AMT at approximately ₹7.72L ex-showroom is the recommended entry point for city buyers who want automatic transmission without going to the full ZXI+ price. The Dzire's AMT is a 5-speed automated manual — smooth for city stop-go, adequate for daily commuting. The VXI trim adds a 9-inch SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, 16-inch alloy wheels, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and Suzuki Connect connected car features. At ~₹8.87L on road Delhi, it sits well below the ₹9.43L ZXI petrol MT while providing connected features and automatic transmission that the ZXI manual lacks. The primary step-up from VXI AMT to ZXI: 6 airbags (ZXI) vs 2 airbags (VXI), LED projector headlamps (ZXI), auto climate (ZXI). For safety-conscious buyers who want automatic, the ZXI AMT (~₹9.97L on road Delhi) is worth the extra ₹1.10L for the 6-airbag upgrade. For budget-primary buyers, VXI AMT at ₹8.87L is the recommended automatic sweet spot.

Price: ~₹7.72L ex / ~₹8.87L on road Delhi
Features: 9-inch screen, wireless CarPlay/Android Auto, AMT, alloys, Suzuki Connect
Safety: 2 airbags (step up to ZXI AMT at ₹9.97L for 6 airbags)
Best for: City daily commuter, automatic preference, feature priority, budget ≤₹9L on road
Best Full Feature ZXI Plus AMT — Electric Sunroof + 360° Camera + HUD + Auto in India's Bestselling Sedan ₹9.36L ex / ₹10.78L on road Delhi — Electric Sunroof, 360° HD Camera, HUD, AMT, 6 Airbags

The ZXI Plus AMT is the top-spec Dzire — it gets an electric sunroof, 360° HD surround-view camera, heads-up display (HUD), 6 airbags, LED projector headlamps, auto climate control, Arkamys 3D sound, wireless CarPlay/Android Auto, Suzuki Connect, and the 5-speed AMT automatic. The Dzire's sunroof and HUD make it desirable — it truly is a standalone premium sedan now rather than just a Swift with a boot. The design is low and wide despite being 10mm taller than the old car. Full-LED projector headlamps and DRLs grab attention. Smoked tail lamps, dual-tone wheels and shark fin antenna give it a modern touch. At ₹9.36L ex / ₹10.78L on road Delhi, the ZXI Plus AMT is India's most feature-complete sub-4m sedan. An electric sunroof + 360° camera + HUD in a ₹9.36L ex-showroom car is genuinely segment-unprecedented — features that were limited to ₹12L+ cars two generations ago. The only trade-off at this price: the 5AMT is adequate but not as smooth as a torque-converter AT at the same speed range. For buyers who do primarily city driving, the AMT's hesitation is acceptable. For significant highway use, the 5MT manual provides a more engaged and predictable driving experience.

Price: ₹9.36L ex / ₹10.78L on road Delhi
Unique: Electric sunroof + 360° HD camera + HUD — all in a sub-₹10L on road Delhi sedan
Safety: 6 airbags + 5-star GNCAP + BNCAP — India's safest sub-4m sedan

The Dzire's dual 5-star safety (GNCAP + BNCAP) — achieved before any competitor in the sub-4m sedan segment — is its defining advantage. The Dzire boasts a five-star safety rating in both GNCAP and BNCAP tests — the first sub-4m sedan to achieve this in India. Honda Amaze's CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) is genuinely smoother than the Dzire's 5AMT for city stop-go driving — if smooth automatic is the primary priority, Amaze CVT (₹8.13L ex for VX CVT) is worth considering. Dzire's counterpoint: 24.79 kmpl petrol MT vs Amaze's 18.9 kmpl — a 31% mileage advantage on the same fuel type that compounds significantly over long ownership.

Maruti Dzire Buying Tips — July 2026

  • 2 offers July 2026 — always check before buying: 2 offers are available on the Maruti Suzuki Dzire in New Delhi for July 2026. Maruti Arena offers typically include exchange bonus (₹15,000–30,000), corporate/fleet discount, and finance subvention. Month-end (July 31) is often the best time to visit dealers — sales teams push for month-end targets and additional dealer-level discounts are common
  • ZXI vs ZXI Plus — the 6-airbag consideration: Both ZXI and ZXI Plus have 6 airbags. The step from ZXI to ZXI Plus (~₹64,000 ex-showroom) adds electric sunroof, 360° camera, and HUD. If sunroof is non-negotiable, go ZXI Plus directly. If you only want 6 airbags without sunroof, ZXI MT is the most cost-effective safe-sedan option at ~₹8.22L ex
  • CNG vs petrol — calculate your specific breakeven: CNG running cost at ₹70/kg and 33.73 km/kg is ₹2.12/km. Calculate your monthly km usage and compare with petrol. At 1,000 km/month: CNG saves ₹2,080/month, breakeven ~31 months. At 2,000 km/month: saves ₹4,160/month, breakeven ~15 months. CNG is only worth it if you drive 1,500+ km monthly. Below 800 km/month, the price premium pays back in 4+ years — petrol is better value
  • Why the Dzire beats hatchbacks at the same price: At ~₹8.87L on road Delhi for VXI AMT, the Dzire competes with the Baleno Alpha AMT (₹10.69L on road Delhi). The Dzire's boot (382L vs Baleno's 318L), comparable features, and class-leading CNG mileage make it a stronger rational choice than the hatchback for family use — at ₹1.82L less money. The only hatchback advantage: slightly more luggage accessibility (hatchback boot opening)
  • Compare with the Maruti Baleno (₹5.99L ex — if hatchback body preferred) and the Maruti Fronx (₹6.85L ex — if turbo petrol or SUV body preferred)

LXI for Pure Budget Safety. VXI AMT for City Auto Under ₹9L. ZXI CNG for Maximum Economy. ZXI Plus AMT for Sunroof + Camera + HUD at ₹10.78L on Road Delhi. India's Bestselling Car for a Reason.

Mileage: 24.79 kmpl petrol MT, 25.71 kmpl AMT, 33.73 km/kg CNG — best-in-class across all fuel options in the sub-4m sedan segment. 5-star GNCAP + BNCAP — the first sub-4m sedan in India to achieve dual 5-star safety. On road Delhi: ₹7.27L–₹10.78L across 9 variants. 2 offers available July 2026. The Dzire's 30 lakh sales milestone represents three decades of Indian car buyers choosing it as their family sedan — that kind of sustained market validation is the strongest possible endorsement any car can carry.

ZXI CNG MT in Delhi NCR — 8 months and 18,000 km. Real-world CNG mileage: 24.8 km/kg city (Delhi stop-go), 29.3 km/kg highway (NH44 at 90 km/h). Monthly fuel cost at 1,800 km: ₹5,097 CNG. My previous car (Wagon R petrol, similar usage): ₹9,600/month. Monthly saving: ₹4,503. The guide's calculation of ₹5,152/month at 1,500 km is accurate — scales proportionally. Boot space (318L CNG vs 382L petrol): I carry 2 office bags and a stroller — fine. Would be tight for airport trips with 4 passengers. The 5-star GNCAP dual certification was the deciding factor over Honda Amaze — the safety data is meaningful and the ₹72,000 price advantage over Amaze base made the Dzire the clear choice.

ZXI Plus AMT at ₹10.78L on road Delhi — the sunroof + 360° camera combination in a ₹9.36L ex sedan was the feature set I hadn't seen at this price anywhere. The electric sunroof (one-touch open/close) in Bengaluru winter evenings is genuinely wonderful. The 360° camera made parallel parking in HSR Layout's narrow roads significantly less stressful. The AMT hesitation the guide mentions: most noticeable during the 30–50 km/h upshift in heavy traffic (the 2–3 speed shuffle under stop-and-go). Once you learn to feather the throttle on the AMT (give it a moment before pushing for acceleration), it smooths out significantly. On highway: I prefer putting it in manual mode for predictable gear selection. ZXI Plus AMT is the correct top variant for anyone in Bengaluru's traffic — the sunroof transforms the cabin psychologically in India's worst stop-and-go.

Dzire vs Honda Amaze CVT test drive decision — drove both on the same day in Hyderabad. Guide's comparison is accurate: Amaze CVT is perceptibly smoother in city stop-go, especially the 0–30 km/h range where Dzire AMT has the most noticeable hesitation. But the fuel economy difference is real: Dzire petrol MT returns 18.2 kmpl in Hyderabad mixed (my estimate from the in-car display). Amaze returned 15.1 kmpl in same test. At my 2,000 km monthly usage: Dzire saves approximately ₹3,900/month in petrol. Over 5 years: ₹2.34 lakh saving on fuel alone, which more than offsets the ₹72,000 Dzire price advantage at entry. Chose Dzire ZXI AMT at ₹9.97L on road Hyderabad — the 6-airbag safety at this price point sealed the decision.

LXI base at ₹7.27L on road Delhi — first car purchase, 23 years old, daily commute 35 km in Delhi. The guide's point about the LXI being a credible base is accurate — 5-star dual NCAP at ₹7.27L on road is the most safety-per-rupee available in the Indian market. No touchscreen in LXI (my only compromise) — installed aftermarket 7-inch CarPlay screen for ₹5,500 at a Delhi accessories shop. Real-world mileage at 35 km daily commute: 16.8 kmpl (AC running, Delhi traffic). Expected CNG breakeven calculation before buying: at my 700 km/month, CNG payback was 42 months — chose petrol for that reason (the guide's advice about <1,000 km monthly favouring petrol is correct).

VXI AMT in Chennai — bought specifically for city automatic ease. The guide correctly recommends VXI AMT as the city automatic sweet spot. Suzuki Connect integration is genuinely useful: I get phone notifications when someone bumps my parked car (3 incidents so far, all caught on app). Wireless CarPlay works without fail unlike wired which disconnected frequently in humidity. Chennai heat makes the lack of sunroof in VXI noticeable — the ZXI Plus AMT's sunroof is worth it in a hot city. I'd upgrade to ZXI Plus next time. For current budget (₹8.87L on road Chennai), VXI AMT was the maximum stretch — and it delivers exactly what the guide says: good enough features for city use at the right price.
